What a Difference a Year MakesA year ago the wetlands on Shell Toomer Parkway after a heavy rainfall were cloudy, but features on the bottom of the creek were clearly visible through the water. Today, after nearly a year of site preparation on the West Pace development, the sediment threatens to fill up the wetland with mud and silt. [MORE]Shell Toomer Parkway UpdateA Montgomery judge is expected to make a decision soon about the fate of the Shell Toomer State Parkway in South Auburn. A citizen's group is asking state judge Johnny Hardwick to void the granting of "driveway easements" for developers to commercialize the Parkway. The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources granted the access more than a year ago, but the court may soon hear arguments on a request for a summary judgment. [MORE]Chewacla CreekDeja vu. The sinkhole that was patched with concrete below the Martin Marietta quarry on Chewacla Creek has now become active again. The concrete has cracked and broken and the entire creek is flowing down this sinkhole, back into the quarry, out the discharge pipe, and down the sinkhole again in a continuous cycle. The creek is now dry for about 200 yards until more water comes into it at the confluence of Moore's Mill Creek below Chewacla Lake.
